# Deposit Collateral

> Move wallet tokens into the margin vault. The live balance is the credit.

A deposit creates the associated token vault on first use. There is no separate collateral-position account. The vault's SPL balance **is** the credited amount.

## Steps

1. Open your margin account.
2. Choose the asset and amount.
3. Confirm `user_deposit_collateral` (or a composite that includes it).
4. Check the collateral row after confirmation.

Donations sent directly to a vault still increase that account's credited collateral — the vault is private to one margin PDA, so they cannot skew a shared exchange rate. Shared reserves are different: they ignore unsolicited transfers.
